Custom Ink is a leading online platform that allows customers to design and create custom apparel and accessories. With a user base of millions, delivering a seamless and enjoyable user experience through a scalable design system is paramount to the company's success.
As a design lead collaborating with Custom Ink's design team, I undertook the challenge of enhancing their 'Design Lab Editor,' a critical tool for customers to create and visualize their custom designs, along with other screens such as checkout, account management, and the catalog.
I needed to create a library for the designers where all components were synced to one master. This was extremely difficult to achieve in Sketch. I suggested moving all designs to Figma, replacing the current software such as Abstract, InVision, and Zeplin. This initiative led to the creation of Pigment, Custom Ink's internal design system.
I worked closely with engineers to integrate Pigment into the development environment, utilizing Storybook to provide an online library for reference and documentation.
Overall, this achievement halved the time required for designers to complete their work, with six different teams utilizing one system (Pigment) to create a consistent digital experience.
